Hello! Welcome back. I’m in the midst of applying for university and preparing for its accompanying interviews. BUT, I’m here today to tell you about the cat cafe I visited a few weeks ago.
I met up with Stefanie and her boyfriend, Ashley, at Raffles Place MRT in the late afternoon to find our way together. None of us had ever been before, so it was lucky we had each other for our first time there.
The cafe we chose is Cat Cafe Neko no Niwa, and it’s the first cat cafe in Singapore! Situated at 54A Boat Quay, it’s sandwiched between many pubs and bars. You’ve gotta keep your eyes peeled for a small, cute sign on the street indicating its existence. It’s on the second floor of the building, so, after a short climb up some very Japanese-looking brown stairs, surrounded by walls decorated with adorable cat decals, we entered a cozy room. Half of it was taken up by a small food-serving area, a small waiting area with tables and chairs, a shoe rack, a sink, and a washroom. On the left is a glass sliding door, and beyond that, a relaxing lounge area filled with equal parts humans and cats!
We were taken through some simple rules and guidelines for interacting with the cats, and then we washed our hands and left our shoes in the rack. When we arrived, it was quite crowded, and so we had to wait a few minutes. It wasn’t much, to be honest, and it was actually nice to watch the cats before plunging right in (especially for me- I take awhile to warm up to new places and people). Pro tip: wear shoes that are easy to take off – everyone who enters has to be barefoot!
The whole atmosphere of the cafe is really quiet and calming. I can totally see why people spend their days there.
Our hour passed faster than we’d have liked – after some discussion, we decided to stay another half-hour. (:
Overall, it was a lot of fun. I’d definitely go back again, as the staff there are really nice and easy to talk to, and they’ll even teach you how to handle domestic cats like the ones in the cafe! I’m so grateful to them for that, it really made my experience really memorable. There’s nothing like forming a bond with a furry friend that’s really special.
