I reached home at 5PM today. It was disconcerting – to walk into a house full of light, not have to flip switches on, to have to roll the blinds up. Showering was especially unsettling. Light coming through the window made me rethink my habit-oriented decision of turning the lights on. My own shadow flitting across the floor and walls made me jump, and slivers of light illuminating my arms and legs as I crossed the bathroom shocked me. It is still light as I write this – 6:20PM – and my eyes seem to prefer the electronic light over the rays of sunset outside, my laptop screen glaring brightly as nature’s lamp rapidly dims.
